Murder suspect Billy Craig Jr., was back in court Wednesday afternoon on the case against him for contempt of court.

Craig refused to testify in the Charles Christopher Logsdon murder trial and was found in contempt. Logsdon is the co-defendant in the case involving the death of Jennifer Heckel.

His attorney in this matter, Blake Cooper asked for transcripts of testimony in past hearings including his testimony or lack there-of in the Logsdon trial. But, he also wants a transcript of Craig’s former attorney, Donald Snapp in a motion hearing over an alleged plea agreement. He wanted any e-mails or letters between the state and Snapp. But, Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton argued those are work product and would not be released by the D-A’s office. Judge Trish rose denied Cooper’s request.

Cooper was granted permission to receive a transcript of the testimony in court when Craig refused to testify against Logsdon. But, Stanton argued against the people of Kansas having to pay for that. Judge Trish Rose took the matter of who pays under advisement.

And the defense continues to come back to an alleged plea agreement between the state and Craig. Stanton told the court that they did offer “limited use immunity” and he refused to take the stand. Other then that, there was no other plea agreement. That matter was settled by Judge Tim Chambers who ruled against the defense on forcing the alleged agreement. Cooper says he needs these things to understand his clients mind-set at the time he reportedly refused to testify. Stanton fired back that he could simply ask him.

Craig is also charged for being involved in the murder of Jennifer Heckel on June 14, 2011. He’s alleged to have gone with Logsdon to Heckel’s home and killing her while her young son was in the next room.

We’re still waiting to learn if the defense will be granted change of venue in the murder case.
