The City of Buhler may be ready to fall in line with Reno County and the City of Hutchinson when it comes to the sale and discharge of fireworks. The Buhler City Council took time Tuesday evening to discuss possible changes to their fireworks ordinance during last nights meeting. Currently, the city follows the state ordinances for fireworks which basically allows anything that’s legal under those guidelines.

The council has asked that an new ordinance be drafted to regulate the dates and times fireworks can be shot off to fall in line with other government entities in the county. However, they stop short of limiting what type of fireworks can be shot off in that city. That means aerial displays can be shot off on private property. None would be allowed on public land.

It was those types of fireworks that led to the city and then the county to tighten the restrictions following a rash of house and field fires last year.

They hope to have a draft of the new ordinance on fireworks ready for the next city council meeting.
