The Reno County Commission approved moving ahead with a contract with SCS Aquaterra to design and build a landfill methane gas collection system at a guaranteed maximum price of just over 2.6-million dollars.
County Administrator Gary Meagher talked about the project during Tuesday’s meeting. He says it is required that it be done by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and they’re coming on a deadline of next spring for it to be complete.
He says they hope to start the work in June.
Since methane is a pollutant, it has to be dealt with before it can migrate into an underground water systems.
Most of the money from the project will come from the landfills closure fund plus other landfill funds.
