The report of a fire truck accident in the county Sunday night looked worse then it was. It resulted in only minor injuries.
It was reported around 9:30 p-m, when emergency personnel were dispatched to 82nd and Hendricks on the report of a one vehicle injury accident. The vehicle involved was a District 3 fire truck, which had rolled and was blocking traffic.
When they arrived, they found the wrecked fire truck in the ditch with heavy damage. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Candace Weins. She reported that her father, Gerald Weins, was driving a District 3 fire brush truck in front of her and she was following in the fire engine. She says she began applying the brakes to slow down and the front wheels began to turn. The truck then left the roadway and she over-corrected causing the truck to veer into the other lane. The truck then left the roadway and rolled once, coming to rest on it’s tires.
Wiens reported minor injuries and was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to be checked out. She was wearing her seat-belt.
