The Hutchinson School Board Monday learned how district students are being prepared for the college and career world that awaits them.

Specifically, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeanne Stroh led the Board through a review of life and career skills assessments used in the district.

The district begins career awareness as early as kindergarten, though formal work on traits and interests awareness does not start until sixth grade. Among the tools used by the district for helping student identify their areas of interests are the Crown Personality I.D., the Jung Personality Test and What Is My Thinking Style.

During the meeting, the board had an opportunity to take one of the assessments.

In her Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Shelly Kiblinger told the board that a business office publication has once again received national recognition.

For the eighth consecutive year, the district received the award from the Government Finance Officer Association for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report that Lori Blakesley, executive director of fiscal management for the district, and the Business Office produced for the 2011-12 school year.

Also known as the CAFR, the document reviews in-depth district finances for the 2011-12 school year. The GFOA gave the document its Certificate of Achievement, the highest award the organization grants.
