Reno County E-M-S responded to a motorcycle accident at U-S 50 and McNew Road around 7:15 a-m, Sunday morning.

The Sheriffs Department says 60-year-old Chester R. Bernhardt, of Arkansas City, was traveling north bound on U-S 50 in the construction zone south of Blanchard when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road where north bound traffic crosses over where the new highway is being built.

Bernhardt struck a KDOT Road Closed barricade which knocked him off the bike.

He wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered lacerations to the head and arms. He was transported to Hutch Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
