Kansas Housing, City of Moundridge Celebrate National Home Ownership Month

In honor of National Homeownership Month, officials from Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC), the City of Moundridge, the Citizens State Bank and the Moundridge Chamber of Commerce celebrated Michelle and Brian Adolf’s entry into the home ownership market. The couple utilized the First Time Home Buyer Program to purchase a home earlier this year in Moundridge.

Presenting Michelle with a bouquet of Sunflowers, the official state flower of Kansas, Gary W. Fisher, Mayor of Moundridge, said housing is one of his community’s top issues. “For towns like us, any help, such as the First Time Home Buyer Program, that assists families in purchasing a home is beneficial for both the city and schools. It’s really a win-win situation,” said Mayor Fisher.

Brian Adolf, a 32-year-old truss designer for ProBuild in Valley Center said he and his wife rented eight years before buying their home. “We’re so blessed to finally have a place of our own. Our new house is bigger, which allows us to enjoy life as a family, but also gives the kids a chance to spread out.”

Michelle Adolf works at Mount Hope Sanctuary, a non-profit organization in McPherson that provides transitional housing and support services to single women and their children. “From the first night, this house felt like home. Everything we want is right here,” said Adolf. “It’s good to know this home is our family’s forever place.”

To celebrate National Homeownership Month, the Adolf family opted to plant a pink double-knockout rose bush. Planting services were provided free of charge by Smoky Valley Nursery in McPherson.
