A month long investigation by law enforcement has led to a man being arrested on serious charges associated with a domestic case.

Steven Beranek who is apparently a business owner in Wichita is charged with abuse of a child, that being a 14-month old, aggravated endangerment of a child, criminal restraint and domestic battery.

Details of the case haven’t been released, but from what was said in court, the adult female victim of case, Mayra Sarai was held against her will on a farmstead in the county. She at some point was able to get free and showed up at a restaurant in the county. Police and sheriff officials then began the investigation which was made more difficult because of her not speaking English.

Beranek was in court Thursday morning where he was read the complaint stating that he inflicted cruel and inhuman corporal punishment on the child and also placed the child in a situation where the child’s life, body or health could be in danger.

Law Enforcement apparently went to the farmstead in the county where all this occurred and all of the adult victims belongings were gone including her clothes. The state is now attempting to get those items returned and Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen ordered that be done as soon as possible. He set a hearing for Monday to determine where things stand in that regard. As far as the criminal case, he set a preliminary hearing date as requested by the defense for September 11, at 1:15 p-m.

He then lowered the bond from 75-hundred to 5-thousand, citing that the defendant has been in the community and also has a business.

Beranek was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office until he could post the bond.
