The Hutchinson Community College football team’s first setback of the season to a Top 3 team in the nation cost the Blue Dragons seven spots in the first regular season NJCAA Football Poll of 2013.
HCC dropped a 41-16 decision to No. 3 Navarro College on Saturday at Gowans Stadium and dropped from No. 6 to No. 13.
The Blue Dragons (1-1) will play a third-straight nationally ranked opponent in Week 3 on Saturday as 2-0 Garden City comes to Gowans Stadium as the No. 12 team in the NJCAA. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Gowans Stadium.
The Blue Dragons have now been ranked for a program-record 44 consecutive polls. HCC has been ranked in 55 of the last 57 polls.
Mississippi Gulf Coast continues to be the No. 1 team in the first regular-season poll. Navarro moves up one spot to No. 2. Defending national champion Iowa Western is No. 3 and Butler is up one spot to No. 4. Former No. 2 Snow College was upset by Georgia Military and dropped to No. 14.
Dodge City is the fourth Jayhawk Conference team receiving notoriety in the national poll. The Conquistadors are receiving votes. Hutchinson travels to Dodge City next Saturday.
Now off to an 0-2 start, Coffeyville, which started the season ranked No. 12, has completely fallen out of poll consideration.
