A 24-year-old Hutchinson man convicted of arson, burglary and theft in two separate cases entered a plea in a third case and sentenced, all in the same hearing

Jason Volker entered pleas to possession of methamphetamine, felony flee and elude, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended.

He attempted to run from a police officer back on January 23. The officer who spotted him knew he had an outstanding warrant. That led to a short chase and Volker eventually stopped and was arrested near his home in the 300 block of East 5th. He was arrested and police alleged that he had the drugs and drug paraphernalia on him.

He was sentenced to a total of 36-months, however the sentence will run concurrent to the sentences in the arson and burglary cases.

The burglary case goes back to September 4, 2012, when he broke into a private residence and stolen items from that home.

Volker is also serving time in prison for a single count of arson. He had reported that two white males had entered his apartment at 5th & Main with a weapon and stole his cell phone back on June 7, 2012.

But, earlier that morning, around 2:30 a-m, Reno County Fire, Sheriff and Drug Unit Detectives were involved in an investigation where they believe a fire was intentionally set on the porch of a home at 8806 South K-17 Highway and a car that was fully destroyed. They then discovered of the remnants of a meth lab. Law Enforcement found some bricks with blood on it that appeared to have been used to break windows in the home.

Volker had cuts on his arms when sheriff detectives talked with him at his apartment in the Landmark building. He was arrested on two counts of arson and criminal damage to property, however entered a plea to just one count of arson.

As it stands now, he could be eligible for parole on January 30, 2015.
