Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson says medical care cost for some inmates could rise

Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson was before the County Commission this morning to inform them that the Hutchinson Clinic Same Day Care would no longer accept inmates from the county.

Henderson says that means that his cost will rise dramatically because he will now be forced to take them to the emergency room of Promise Regional Medical Center.

He tells us that the cost at Same Day care is 129-dollars, compared to an E-R visit which cost 902-dollars.

He says they only take one or two inmates a month the same day care because most things happen after hours or on weekends when same day care is closed, however says the sheriff, the 773-dollar difference is going to sap his budget. He says 1- person a month would increase his cost to 9-thousand, 276-dollars. He adds, if two a month go, it doubles that to 18-thousand, 552.

Henderson says he understands the concerns of the clinic with bringing inmates in areas where the general public are, but still doesn’t help his budget in the future. No other solution has come up, so for now anyway, he will be forced to take inmates to the Emergency Room at Promise Regional Medical Center.

Apparently, Commissioner Brad Dillon is going to try to work out some type of agreement with the Hutchinson Clinic, which would satisfy their concerns and the Sheriff’s Office needs.
