A 21-year-old Hutchinson man charge with abuse of child entered pleas in two cases Monday as a part of a plea agreement with the state.

William Hickey entered “no contest” pleas to aggravated endangerment of a child in one case and attempted criminal threat in the other. The first charge has a sentencing range of 5-to-13 months, while with the other charge, the range is 5-to-17-months.

It was back on June 13, when Hickey was alleged to have knowingly tortured or cruelly beat a 1-year-old child. The other theory alleges that he inflicted cruel and inhumane corporal punishment on the 1-year-old. This after the child sustained injuries to her face and also her bottom.

The state contends that this was no accident, but Hickey contends that he opened a door that tends to stick and the door hit the child. Members of Hickey’s family indicate there were no marks on the child when they saw her earlier that day.

In the other case he had been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for threatening Darrell Hickey with a knife. He was also charged with criminal threat for the same incident. That occurring back on May 17, 2012.

With Hickey entering the pleas, sentencing will be on November 1. Judge Tim Chambers will allow Hickey to have contact with his dad, Darrell Hickey, but not the mother and the child involved in endangerment case.

He also granted a request to allow Hickey to bond out on a signature or 25-hundred dollar O-R bond. That’s partly because of the case calling for some form of probation when the sentencing occurs.
