A Hutchinson woman accused of shooting a Hutchinson area man back on January 30, entered a “no contest” plea to attempted 2nd degree murder and a “guilty” plea to aggravated robbery Thursday morning.

Barbara Youngblood had faced trial on charges of attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated battery for shooting Kevin Tinin while in his home east of Hutchinson. With the plea, the burglary and battery charges were dropped.

The victim had phoned 911 and told of being shot and after a search by various law enforcement officers, was located in a wooded area and flown to a Wichita hospital. He was shot in the lower stomach with the bullet exiting his leg.

At the preliminary hearing, he gave chilling testimony of finding the defendant in his home armed with what he said was a 9 millimeter handgun and she allegedly told him she was going to kill him. He apparently grabbed her hand as she was starting to aim and the gun went off. He says he was struck in the stomach with the bullet leaving his body through his right leg. He then fell near the door of the home. She at one point sat at the kitchen table after taking his cell phone from him. She also allegedly threatened to beat him to death with a baseball bat.

As she was looking through the phone, he managed to get out of the home, but then she allegedly fired at him again as he attempted to get away with the bullet going through his legs. He managed to get to a field behind the home where he says he collapsed, passed out for a period of time. When he awoke, she was over him with the gun still in her hand. She then allegedly took his wallet. As he laid there bleeding, she allegedly complained that it was taking to long for him to die. He says once his breathing became shallow, he curled up in a ball and closed his eyes and waited to die. They didn’t speak for a long period of time and she finally walked off. He was able to call 911 eventually with a cell phone he had just purchased and forgot was in his other jacket pocket.

Youngblood was sought as the sheriff’s department began their investigation into the shooting. She was eventually located near the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

With the plea she avoids trial and will be sentenced on November 15, at 1:30 p-m. Judge Tim Chambers set the hearing as a special setting, meaning the sentencing hearing could take longer then most.

Youngblood remains jailed on a 536-thousand, 500-dollars bond.
