The 14-year old Hutchinson teen accused of two counts of first degree murder, attempted murder and arson waived his right to a detention hearing Monday in Reno County Juvenile Court. Sam Vonachen is accused of setting fire to his family’s home Thursday. The fire Killed his mother and 11 year old sister, the attempted murder of his father and arson for allegedly setting the family home on fire.
According to district attorney Keith Schroeder the next hearing will be a pretrial hearing. That hearing is set for October 22nd in division 4, or the juvenile court room. During that hearing Vonachen will enter a plea and a trial date will be set depending on that plea.
Another hearing could be held sooner than that as Schroeder has indicated that he will ask that Vonachen be tried as an adult.
Vonachen is being represented by local attorney Greg Bell.
