Although it only resulted in minor injuries, a semi with a load of hay on its trailer overturned west of Obee Road, on Red Rock Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 11:00 a-m, when Matt Owen Littlefield bent over to grab a cell phone that was ringing on the passenger side of the truck. His truck then went off the road on the right side, where it clipped a bridge guardrail. The guardrail was completely leveled on the bridge.

He couldn’t recover and his truck overturned onto its passenger side. Matt had minor scrapes, and was able to free himself from the truck. He then called 911.

When Sheriff Deputies arrived, the noticed that the hay was still attached to the trailer. The cab of the tractor was extremely smashed in, and matched the contour of the sloped ditch.

Littlefield stated at the scene that he was not injured, though a deputy observed small scrapes, and some blood coming from his ear. He was checked by Reno County EMS at the scene, but was not transported. They say he was wearing his seat-belt, and there was no airbag deployment.

The hay was released from the trailer at some point, and then Auto-house pulled the tractor and trailer up right. The tractor portion was completely destroyed, and the trailer had minimal damage visible.

Local farmers removed the hay from the side of the roadway.

Reno County Public Works was called to assess the damage to the bridge. They concluded the bridge itself was fine, that it was just the guardrail that would need replacing.
