Hutchinson Community College sophomore quarterback Elliott Alford earned Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after his performance against Dodge City last Saturday in the Blue Dragons’ 63-6 victory at Gowans Stadium.

Alford completed 19 of 28 passes for 278 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Blue Dragons to their fifth win of the season and remain perfect in the Jayhawk Conference at 3-0. Alford had TD passes of 61, 23, 19 and 4 yards. He accounted for 313 total yards.

Alford moved into fifth on HCC’s career passing list (2,867 yards), second on HCC’s career TD passes (29) list and third on HCC’s total yardage list (3,371 yards).

For the season, Alford is 85 of 125 for 1,347 yards with 19 touchdowns and one interception. He has rushed for 189 yards and four scores.

It’s the third time this season that Alford has earned a weekly conference award. Alford is the ninth Blue Dragon to earn Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors in 2011.

For the second-straight year, Verizon Wireless is the title sponsor of the Jayhawk Conference Football Players of the Week. Alford is now eligible for NJCAA national player of the week honors. Those winners will be announced later this week.
