A 25-year-old Hutchinson man bound over for trial for aggravated battery for allegedly severely beating his own mother failed to show in court Monday morning, according to Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell.

Joseph Lewis Jr., was to be arraigned on the charge Monday in front of Judge Trish Rose. Arraignment is where a defendant enters a plea in the case.

With him being a “no show,” Judge Rose issued a bench warrant with a 10-thousand dollar bond.

The case centers on Lewis becoming upset over a comment his mother made to him while they were arguing over a haircut he didn’t like. He allegedly became upset and pushed her in a chair and then began punching her with both fist. It was estimated in court that it could have been as many as 10-to-15 times.

So, when the arraignment will occur at this point is unclear.
