A man and wife died in a Barton County accident on Tuesday.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol eighty-year-old Gordon L. Zahradnik of Lyons was driving a Buick Lucerne and merging onto K156 eastbound from K4 a mile and a half east of Claflin in Barton County.

Melody Dawn Bole age 50 of Casey, Iowa was driving a 2004 Kenworth semi-truck eastbound on K156.

The Buick was attempting to make a u-turn in the path of the Semi-truck when they collided. The Buick entered the north ditch, went down an embankment and came to rest in a ditch.  Zahradnik and his wife Rae Vivian Zahradnik age 78, a  passenger in the Buick, were transported to the hospital in Great Bend where they died. They were not wearing seat belts. The semi truck driver was not injured.
