Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services Secretary Shawn Sullivan will make a formal presentation Wednesday to Presbyterian Manor, a continuing care retirement community in Sterling.

Presbyterian Manor is one of the eight adult care facilities that earned a 2012 Promoting Excellence Alternatives in Kansas (PEAK) award. The awards are given annually by KDADS to facilities that implement and promote person-centered care.

“Sterling Presbyterian Manor supports residents in making their own choices and preserves residents’ individual freedom to define their own life,” Sullivan said.

The award will be presented Wednesday, at 2 p-m, at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor, 204 West Washington.

The PEAK awards program began in 2002 to recognize and encourage nursing homes to move away from the institutional model of care to a person-centered model with residents having more control over their activities and schedules.
