The Hutchinson Correctional Facility inmate who walked away from a work release job a week ago is headed back to Kansas
39-year-old Chad Alan Leichhardt waived extradition from Oklahoma Friday and is being returned to the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections.
He walked away from his work release job in Newton, and was apprehended in Perry, Oklahoma on Saturday. He has remained in the county jail in Perry and is now being transported by corrections officers back to the Hutchinson Corrections Facility.
Upon completion of the investigation by HCF investigators, the reports will be forwarded to the Reno County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
Leichhardt has convictions for DUI, aggravated burglary, drug violations, criminal threat, attempting to elude police and theft. These convictions were from Sumner and Sedgwick counties. Leichardt was due to be released from prison on February 11, 2014.
