A former volunteer firefighter in Reno County who entered guilty pleas to setting three grass fires as part of a plea agreement with the state was sentenced to 12-months on each count then granted 12-months probation.

Cody Knox had been charged with 14-counts of arson, but the state dropped the other 11 counts. .

These charges stem from fires occurring between October 16, through November 27, 2012. here in Reno County. All of them occurring within a few miles of the city of Arlington.

His attorney told the court that none of the fires were threatening to any structures, livestock, fences, etc. He also apparently wanted to join the Army, but with the conviction, that is no longer an option.

The case is presumptive probation, so Judge Chambers went along with sentencing guidelines and gave him the 12-months.

Knox apologized to the court and said he takes full responsibility for his actions.

At the time of the fires, Knox was attending Hutchinson Community College studying fire science and was a volunteer member of Reno County District 4 Fire Department.
