First National Bank of Hutchinson was recognized for their outstanding efforts in workplace wellness programming at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce’s October Membership Breakfast. The Work Well Reno Award has been awarded quarterly since April 2012.
First National Bank of Hutchinson has focused on work site wellness for several years, and has a long-standing wellness committee. By design, this committee includes people from a diverse range of departments and branches. The organizers say it was important for them to engage the unusual suspects, and say it is one reason behind their success. Excellent support from their administration contributes to the healthy culture they hope to create for their employees.
The bank provides biometric screenings to their employees once a year through the Hutchinson Clinic’s Healthy Connection program, and the results consistently show they are generally a very healthy company with low risk factors. 70%-75% of their employees complete these screenings.
The wellness committee attributes their good marks to a positive attitude towards health and wellness from employees. They use incentives to encourage a healthy lifestyle, and are in the process of investigating using their benefits package as a tool. They focus on keeping their healthy employees healthy by providing onsite work out rooms, as well as discount gym membership and free onsite yoga.
In addition, several members of the First National Bank staff attended the WorkWell Kansas training hosted in January, and are taking steps to implement some of the things they learned. They also participate in the quarterly workplace wellness luncheons hosted by the Community Development Division of the Chamber.
First National Bank focuses on keeping their efforts fun as a way to improve or maintain good mental health. They said that a positive attitude about their work environment leads to increase productivity, and reduces turnover.
The Work Well Reno Award is sponsored by the Community Development Division of the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, and Hutchinson Clinic’s Healthy Connection Program. The next award will be given in January 2014, and nominations can be made on the Chamber’s website. www.hutchchamber.com.
