One of two men who were arrested back in May following the discovery of a stolen ATV and a stolen mini-bike was bound over for trial today after the preliminary hearing against him.

46-year-old Ronald Jay Smith faces trial for possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and illegal tag display. He was arrested along with 20-year-old Sebastian Muns

The case starts when deputies were dispatched to a location in eastern Reno County for a report of suspicious activity, this on Victory Road. That’s when they found a white suburban with a 4 wheel ATV hanging out of the back doors. They also found a mini bike inside the suburban.
The two men were then arrested over the discovery and Smith allegedly had methamphetamine on him at the time of his arrest.

The 4 wheeler ATV and mini bike were reported stolen from a residence in Burrton. The victim testified Monday that he had kept both at his dads home and was informed by his dad that they were no longer there, thinking his son has picked them up. That wasn’t the case.

With Smith being bound over for trial, he’ll be arraigned on the charges next week.

He also faces a burglary charge in Harvey County over this same case.

Smith is no stranger to the law with multiple convictions here in Reno County for burglary, flee and elude, theft, two counts of arson, driving while an habitual violator, two counts of aggravated escape from custody and driving while suspended.

He’s currently in the Hutchinson Correctional Facility for a parole violation for some of the earlier convictions and is scheduled to be released on November 10, however, with the new charges in both Reno and Harvey County, it could have an effect on that.
