A 33-year-old Hutchinson man arrested back on July 26, of last year on charges associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine was sentenced Friday morning by Judge Trish Rose to conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of ephedrine with intent to manufacture meth, and possession of methamphetamine.

Guy Currie was given a total of 172-months for the conspiracy to manufacture, 49-months for the possession ephedrine, and 11-months for the possession of meth. She ran the sentences concurrent to each other for a controlling sentence of 172-month. She then granted 36-months community corrections, however, he will have to serve a 60-day jail sanction, and complete inpatient drug treatment before he actually goes on corrections.

The case centers on Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies being dispatched to Langdon on the report of suspicious activity and they tried to stop a suspicious vehicle, but it resulted in a brief chase. The driver eventually went off the road and into some grass, then he and a passenger ran from the vehicle. The deputies say they looked into the vehicle to see who it belonged to, since the tag was not on file. Currie’s wallet and I-D was allegedly found inside.

One deputy also noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the trunk of the vehicle. They opened the trunk and allegedly found items consistent to manufacture meth including Coleman fuel, professional drain cleaner, rock salt, lithium batteries, empty boxes of Sudafed pills, and several containers with grunge and residue. That was on July 26, of last year.

Guy was arrested and booked into jail on manufacturing charges, but the state at one point dropped the charges, but refiled them on Jun 13, of this year.

The state had dropped the charge of possession of anhydrous ammonia, and the possession of lithium metal is the same as possession of ephedrine for sentencing purposes.

Also arrested in the case last was 35-year-old Justin Armstrong. It was actually his vehicle that deputies chased.
