SALINA – The latest addition to Kansas Wesleyan University, the Albert Nelson Student Success Center, is up and running. The Student Success Center was named after Albert Nelson, a highly respected professor in education at Kansas Wesleyan for 32 years.

The Student Success Center encourages students to enhance their learning experience and have access to any resources they need.

From improving learning skills, assistance with homework, internet resources, and tests to improve themselves, the Student Success Center offers a variety of helpful tools for the students.

Dr. Wayne Lowen, Provost, said, “While some programs will be designed for those having difficulty with one or more subjects, other programs will be designed to help any student to be able to perform better academically.”

With an inviting and friendly atmosphere, the Student Success Center makes students feel welcome.

The Student Success Center was developed after many faculty members and students expressed interest in having somewhere to go for help on campus. The University wanted to improve current student academics and increase retention.

Head baseball coach, Mark Carvalho said, “In the recruiting process we tell our recruits and their parents the importance of this opportunity and it shows our student-athletes that the University will provide the tools to assist them in achieving their academic goals. For their efforts, they will get a quality education and a degree from Kansas Wesleyan.”

Since the facility has opened, “We have had great faculty support, and students have utilized it every day,” said Jennifer Unger, Director of the Student Success Center.

Unger directs all the activities that take place in the Student Success Center including organizing tutors and study skills as well as proctoring tests.

“We are delighted to have found Jennifer Unger as the Director of the Student Success Center,” Lowen said.

A portion of this project was underwritten by private funding. The Student Success Center is free to all students and is available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. It is located on the first floor of Memorial Library.
