TOPEKA – Have you ever dreamed of how you might spend your winnings if you won the Lottery? Diana Mitzner has, but her dreams have turned to reality. Last Wednesday, the Buhler resident purchased a 10-dollar game, winning a $100,000 top prize playing a $100,000 Crossword instant scratch ticket!
“I’m going to set up college accounts for my grandchildren, take a family trip, and pay bills,” said Mitzner. “This is so exciting. I never buy $10 tickets.”
Since the 54-year-old winner had $17 worth of winning tickets, she cashed them in and decided to splurge on a $10 ticket.
“I waited until I got home before I scratched the ticket,” said Mitzner. “I thought I had won $1,000, but realized I had missed scratching a letter. The letter I missed caused me to reveal another word, so then I thought I had won $10,000. After going over the ticket again, I realized I had missed yet another letter. That letter caused me to reveal another word, which lead to me winning $100,000!”
Mitzner won the top prize by revealing all 14 words on her ticket.
“After I called my husband Chuck and daughters, I went to a nearby convenience store and asked the clerk to verify my ticket,” said Mitzner. “She told me I had won something big, but she didn’t know how much I had won. I asked her to count the words I had found, and she agreed that I had won $100,000 and suggested I go to Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim my prize. Since it was a windy day, I had a death grip on my ticket.”
Mitzner has four grown children and seven grandchildren. She purchased her winning ticket at Kwik Shop at 1220 N. Main St. in Newton.
