The 28-year-old Wichita man charged with crimes associated with a stand-off with police back in March on 19-counts entered not guilty pleas this morning in front of Judge Tim Chambers.

Deron McCoy Jr., also managed to get his bond reduced from 500 to 200-thousand dollars with Judge Chambers believing the bond was two high for the charges. He says a half million is usually reserved for someone charged with murder, so he lowered it

McCoy was involved in the standoff with police leading to more charges added after the preliminary hearing including aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and solicitation to commit perjury. McCoy was already charged with several other felony and misdemeanor counts including two counts of kidnapping, so the total is now 19-counts.

The charges are a result of a stand-off occurring when police were called to a domestic dispute with the mother of the child that she and McCoy had together were disputing custody. It involved their 7-month old daughter and that he was held up in a room at the Budget Inn Motel at 4th & Washington in the downtown area of Hutchinson.

After repeated attempts to contact him, police officials decided to rush into the room, and McCoy allegedly had a gun pointed in the direction of a woman he calls his sister, and also allegedly used the baby as a shield in front of his head when officers entered. He was taken into custody without incident.

With the not guilty plea, Judge Tim Chambers says he will schedule a pre-trial hearing in the near future as well as an actual date for a jury trial.
