Suspect in unlawful sexual relations case enters ‘guilty’ plea

GERALDO CENTENO

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 19-year-old McPherson man arrested by Haven Police back on February 16 and charged by the state with unlawful voluntary sexual relations entered a “guilty” plea to the charge Thursday afternoon.

Geraldo Centero was arrested after he brought home a 15-year-old girl who he had apparently met up with at a party the previous night. The victim apparently told her mother that she was going to a friends home, but then ended up with Centero.

The two had apparently been communicating with each other through the internet and by phone. She had sent him some naked photos of herself according to District Attorney Keith Schroeder. They found those pictures on his cell phone.

With him waiving his right to a preliminary hearing and entering the plea, Judge Joe McCarville set sentencing for June 20.

Schroeder made it clear on the record that charges against the defendant in McPherson County that could be dropped is not a result of this agreement.

But, as part of the plea because he was only 18 at the time and there was only four years difference in age, he will not have to register as a sex offender.
