HUTCHINSON, Kan — Starting on Monday, May 19, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a bridge replacement project on the bridge carrying traffic on K-61 Highway between 4th and 11th.

This bridge will be constructed one half at a time, so the section of highway between 4th and 11th, will be reduced from 4-lanes to 2 – one lane for northbound traffic and one lane for southbound. This bridge replacement project is scheduled to be completed by December 2014, depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions.

There will be an 11 ft., width restriction in the work zone, so vehicles with widths wider than 11 ft will need to use an alternate route.

Dondlinger and Sons Construction Co. Inc. from Wichita is the prime contractor for this
project, at a cost of $887,044 which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
