HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 44-year-old Hutchinson man jailed for threatening three people with a baseball bat is competent to stand trial. That was the result of a competency evaluation by Horizon’s Mental Health Center for James Elliot.

Judge Joe McCarville revealed the findings Thursday morning then set the matter for a preliminary hearing on June 18

The incident apparent involved a domestic situation with the bat. Elliot at the time of his arrest didn’t recall anything occurring, but did admit seeing the three alleged victims the night in question.

Elliot was on community corrections when this incident occurred, He was placed on corrections on February 7, in Sedgwick County for possession of drugs and driving while under the influence.
