HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Rain may have forced the individual race to fewer rounds, but stiff competition between Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans and Stanford’s Cameron Wilson extended the tilt once more.

Both players finished their respective rounds at 6-under-par. Wilson edged Schniederjans on the third and final hole of the playoff. “It’s incredible, so glad I made that putt, this is surreal,” Wilson said.

Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers, the top-ranked amateur player in the world, would have beaten Tiger Woods’ career win record at Stanford with an individual title Monday, but fell all the way to fifteenth. Lanny Wadkins of the Golf Channel said Rodgers “got a little out of sync in his swing and had a hard time judging the distance with some of his shots.  Normally he handles the heat really well.”

Regardless, Stanford enters Tuesday’s quarterfinal as the No. 1 seed after shooting 13 under as a team. Faced with a moment to bask in the glory of an individual title, Wilson opted to keep his eye on the team prize.  “I’ve got to mention my team first.  I gotta say how proud I am of my guys so far.  There is a lot of golf left, but I am really happy for all of the guys,” Wilson said in preparation for Tuesday’s rigor.

Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, UCLA, SMU and Illinois will round out the playing field vying for a title. The Crimson Tide and Tigers were the only other teams, including the Cardinal, to finish under par. The Cowboys broke even to snatch the 4 spot, while Illinois made the cut at plus 5.

Quarterfinal Match Play begins at 7 a.m. Tuesday, with Semifinals slated to tee off at 1 p.m.
