HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission made quick work of their agenda Tuesday with only two items. That included an agreement between the county and the city of Hutchinson for the benches on city property. 10 of the ones we have been mentioning are already in place, but they want to add an additional one for a total of 11 in the city. These benches would be to support R-CAT by placing these items on city property.

The ones already in place include 2901 North Main in front of the Village Inn Restaurant, 803 East 30th Avenue in front of Health E-Quip, 1529 East 17th, in front of Target. Also at 1619 North Lorraine on the east side of the street, 11th Avenue, west of the pedestrian crossing for the Kansas Cosmosphere on the south side of the street, just south of 4th Street on Severance on the east side, Avenue A, near K-61 in front of Tech, 2nd Avenue, west of Adams on the south side. Other locations include the Elmdale Community Center at 400 East E, and at Hutchinson High School.

The new one would be on 23rd, east of Severance in front of Hutchinson Credit Union. Barbara Lilyhorn, Director of R-CAT told the commission that there is no grant money for the additional location, but that there would be no cost to the county, saying the credit union would be picking up the tab.

The commission also gave final approval of a new policy regarding prayer at the beginning of each commission meeting. The change is due to a recent Supreme Court decision that allows prayer which could include both sectarian and non-sectarian prayers.
