HUTCHINSON, (Kan.) — Joshua Williams had two extra base hits, but Hutchinson Monarchs still fell to Kansas Cougars 6-3 on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Kansas Cougars had no answer for Jeremy Kravetz, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Kravetz gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his three innings of work.

Kasey Biddle recorded the win for Kansas Cougars. He allowed one run over six innings. Kasey struck out five, walked three and gave up four hits.

Jake Jewell was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed five runs.

Kansas Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A single by Gage Grant, plating Jacob Richardson started the inning off.

Kansas Cougars stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fifth, scoring four runs on three singles.

Two runs in the bottom of the seventh helped Hutchinson Monarchs close its deficit to 5-3. An RBI double by Mitchell Beudreau and a groundout by Trevor Turner sparked Hutchinson Monarchs’ rally. The Hutchinson Monarchs threat came to an end when Maverick Macy finally got Zak Leighton to fly out.
