HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Starting around Monday, June 9, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin an asphalt overlay project on U-S 50 in western Harvey County and eastern Reno Counties. This will be from the US-50/K-15 interchange in Newton continuing west 28-miles to the intersection of U-S-50 & Obee Road east of Hutchinson.

The entire K-89 route south from U-S 50 to the City of Halstead will also be included in this project.

Traffic through this work zone will be controlled by flagmen and pilot car, so drivers can expect delays of up to 15-minutes. There will be an 11-foot width restriction in the work zone, so vehicles with widths wider than 11-feet will need to use an alternate route.

The work area will move daily and work will be underway during daylight hours only. This project is scheduled to be completed by September, depending on delays caused by adverse weather conditions.

APAC – Kansas Inc., Shears Division from Hutchinson is the prime contractor for the over $6.300.000.00 project, which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010. KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.
