Accident kills one, critically injures one in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, KAN. – One person is dead, one injured and one arrested after a fatality accident in Hutchinson early Sunday morning.

Killed was 34-year-old Pedro Perez of Hutchinson. Injured was 28-year-old Marena Gumber of Palisade, Colorado. She was flown to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita where she remains in critical condition with head injuries.

The accident occurred when a westbound vehicle on 11th, driven by 28-year-old Homer Alexander Beebe of Clifton Colorado, collided with pickup traveling south on Main Street. After the initial collision, the pickup then struck a parked vehicle.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Beebe allegedly fled on foot but was arrested later at a home at 41 Sunset. He was taken to jail on charges of failing to report an accident and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The accident occurring around 1:50 a.m., Sunday morning and is still under investigation. Hutchinson Police Sgt. Brian Hirt says it is undetermined at this point whether alcohol was factor in the crash.
