HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Rivers and waterways in Reno County are on the rise and more is one the way.

The area is under a flood watch through Thursday as water from up north,  and the threat of thunderstorms overnight could cause flooding in Reno County. Todd Strain with Reno County Emergency management says things aren’t too bad right now with all county roads open. With high water already in Rice county, and the threat of more rain, Strain says county residents need to keep a close eye on the weather, as rivers, and especially Cow Creek, could rise rapidly.

As of Wednesday morning, the Little Arkansas River at Alta Mills was at 4.5 feet with flood stage at 10 feet. The North fork of the Ninnescah River above Cheney Reservoir was at 7.4 feet with flood stage at 9 feet.
