A wintry weather system is moving across Kansas, bringing the first significant snow of the season to western parts of the state. And late Wednesday evening, it did start falling in the Hutchinson area, and did produce some accumulations mainly on vehicles and grassy areas.

But, those traveling Wednesday night, and especially early Thursday morning should watch for slick spots in the roads, and especially on over-passes and other bridges. The main thing is to slow down and avoid using cell phones or other things that would distract you while driving.

Earlier in the day, The Kansas Department of Transportation’s website showed parts of Interstate 70 becoming snow-covered Wednesday as the system moved across the plains. No road closures were reported.

The National Weather Service cancelled a blizzard warning for northwestern Kansas as the storm tapered off Wednesday afternoon, but winter weather advisories remained in effect for much of the state.

Forecasters called for about 2 inches of snow in parts of Kansas, with some locations picking up larger amounts.
