SALINA – An argument over rice has led to a 28-year-old inmate in the Saline County Jail being charged with aggravated battery.
Rolvie Hamilton who’s in the Saline County Jail on numerous drug charges had allegedly beaten 51-year-old Benny Hancock Monday after the two had argued about Hamilton returning rice to Hancock after getting items from the jail commissary .
Hamilton had asked in the middle of October if Hancock would let him have his rice pack, and he would return a rice pack to him later. When the next commissary items arrived, Hamilton refused to return the rice, and thats when Hamilton allegedly began beating Hancock.
Hancock who’s in jail on a probation violation and drug charges, reported the incident to staff and during a check up Tuesday, and x-rays found Hancock had a break in his jaw in two places.
The Sheriffs Office then requested aggravated battery charges be filed against Hamilton.
