HCC’s Young Named Jayhawk Player Of The Week

Freshman setter Hayley Young posted her second career triple-double and career highs in kills and assists last week in earning Jayhawk Conference Western Division Player of the Week honors for the final week of the 2011 regular season.

Young, a freshman from Douglass, averaged 6.7 assists and 1.9 kills per set in five matches last week. She hit .239 and had 48 digs and 10 service aces.

Against Dodge City in a key Jayhawk West match that clinched a home Region VI match, Young had a career-high 54 assists, which tied for the fifth-most assists in a single match in team history. It was the second time this season that Young surpassed 50 assists in a set. Young added 13 digs, five kills and four service aces against Conquistadors.

Against Indian Hills at the Jefferson College Halloween Tournament, Young had a career-high 16 kills and posted a triple-double with 28 assists and 12 digs to lead Hutch to a five-set victory.

Young and the Lady Dragons will be competing in the Region VI Tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Wichita. The Lady Dragons (16-21) will play Barton in the opening match at Noon at Newman University.
