A 50-year-old Hutchinson man received minor injuries after his van nearly struck a deer, but cause the driver to roll his van.
It happened just after 8:00 a-m, Thursday morning when Reno County Sheriff deputies along with Reno County E-M-S, responded to the one vehicle crash, just north of 82nd on Monroe north of Hutchinson.
They found a 1989 Dodge Caravan in the west ditch and the driver Jimmy Richardson walking around.
Richardson said he had reached down to get his coffee, looked up, saw a deer, and tried to avoid hitting it. Next thing he knew, he was in the ditch. He then said that his vehicle seemed to sling shot across the road and went into the other ditch and he landed upside down.
Richardson was wearing his seatbelt.
He was transported by Reno County E-M-S to Promise Regional Medical Center for treatment of a laceration to the side of his head.
Just a reminder, it’s deer mating season and were already starting to get more reports of deer-vehicle crashes across the state. Be aware, especially in the county and at dusk and dawn.
