TOPEKA (AP) – Testimony has ended in a disciplinary case examining a Kansas doctor’s referral of young patients for late-term abortions to preserve their mental health.

The hearing for Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus concluded Friday. Attorneys for Neuhaus and the state medical board will have until Jan. 17 to submit final summaries of the evidence and legal
arguments to the hearing’s presiding officer.

He will recommend to the board whether Neuhaus should face sanctions over the mental health evaluations of 11 patients, aged 10 to 18, who terminated their pregnancies in 2003 at the late Dr. George Tiller’s clinic in Wichita.

Tiller needed second opinions from Neuhaus to do the procedures under a state law restricting late-term abortions. Neuhaus is accused of negligence, which she strongly denies.
