HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Power outages caused some headaches for motorists in the downtown area Wednesday afternoon. Although it didn’t affect a lot of Westar Energy customers, it did cause traffic lights to go out which meant police had to man many of the downtown intersections.

The outage lasted about 45 minutes from around 3:00 to 3:45 p.m., according to Gina Penzig, spokesperson for Westar.

Penzig says they don’t know the exact cause of the outage. She says that happens sometimes when something like a tree limb falls on a line, but then falls to the ground.

She says their main goal is always to get power back on as quickly as possible.
