BUHLER, Kan. — Wayne Simien knows there’s more to life than just basketball. In fact, there’s more to basketball than just basketball.

“I wanted to offer them something more than just how to dribble, pass and shoot a basketball,” Simien, the former All-American Jayhawk, said.

For the third summer in a row, Simien – former All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year at the University of Kansas, and NBA Champion with the Miami Heat – held his Called to Greatness basketball camp at Buhler High School. With the help of Central Christian basketball coaches DJ Kauffman, Adam Clark and Jason Hett, Simien showed students of all age ranges the importance of Jesus Christ in basketball. Lonnie Paramore of Haven High basketball also helped Simien teach Christian values through a game so many love.

Jason Hett, DJ Kauffman and Adam Clark teach valuable skills at the CTG camp. Hett coaches girls basketball at Central Christian, while Clark and Kauffman led the Cougar Men to consecutive State Tournament appearances.

Simien says he wants to teach kids what it really means to live a life of greatness through Jesus Christ. “It’s about life skills and teaching kids about Jesus Christ,” Kauffman said, echoing Simien’s sentiments.

“It’s a lot of fun not just seeing kids increase in their skill and ability, but to see Christian character click in their hearts,” Simien noted.

Kauffman and Simien have seen the camp grow over the last three years and expect numbers to grow accordingly each summer.
