For the second time in less then two weeks, the Hutchinson area has seen some heavy snow and it did cover the ground and cause other problems. Two-thousand, 192-customers Westar Energy customers lost power during the brief storm according to their website.

The Hutchinson area had earlier seen some good rains with over an inch and half recorded at the Eagle Media Center at 9th & Main and you can add nearly an inch additional to that.

The streets in the downtown area became snow packed, but as the snow tapered off, it began to melt quickly and because the snow was so wet, it also made it slick to walk on.

The snow diminished late Tuesday evening, but temps dropped below freezing and elevated surfaces became slick overnight and early Wednesday morning.

Reno County Sheriff Captain Wayne Baughman indicated that his department had worked numerous accidents early Wednesday morning, but tells us there were no injuries.

The weather is much improved Wednesday with sunshine back and already temperatures in the 40’s.
