HUTCHINSON — After a scintillating performance to open her sophomore season, Hutchinson Community College sophomore soccer player Jen Rogers was named the first Jayhawk Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week of the 2014 season on Tuesday.

Rogers, a sophomore midfielder from Liverpool, England, tied a career high with five goals scored and added an assist in an 11-point game in Hutchinson’s season-opening 11-3 victory over Western Wyoming on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Rogers posted her fifth career hat trick and scored five goals in a game for the third time in her career.

The sophomore midfielder moved up three spots on the HCC career points list to seventh with 88 points. She now has 38 career goals, tying her for fourth with Danielle Sheehy and Jenny Yukich.

This is the third time in Rogers’ career to earn Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors.

She is now eligible to compete for NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. That award will be released on Wednesday.

Hutchinson plays at Pratt at 4 p.m. on Wednesday to open the Jayhawk Conference season.
