HUTCHINSON — Fresh off a spectacular season-opening performance on Saturday, Hutchinson Community College sophomore midfielder Jen Rogers earned NJCAA National Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday.

An NJCAA first-team All-American and reigning Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman, Rogers started 2014 off in grand fashion with five goals and an assist for an 11-point game in Hutchinson’s 11-3 season opener against Western Wyoming on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Rogers posted her fifth career hat trick and scored five goals in a game for the third time in her career.

The sophomore midfielder moved up three spots on the HCC career points list to seventh with 88 points. She now has 38 career goals, tying her for fourth with Danielle Sheehy and Jenny Yukich. Her sixth career game-winning goal moves her into a third-place tie for a career in that category. Her 11 points tied for fifth most in single-game HCC history. Rogers had four goals and an assist for nine points, which tied for fifth most in a half by an HCC player.

Rogers becomes the 10th Blue Dragon player in program history to earn national weekly honors. On Tuesday, Rogers was named the Jayhawk Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the third time in her career.

Hutchinson plays at Pratt at 4 p.m. today to open Jayhawk Conference play.
