SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. – This summer, a resident at MFC provided a challenge.

He used to be a farmer who milked cows. When he learned that Kristen Roderick, marketing director and resident liaison, had milked goats at the Kansas State Fair, he wanted to give it a try.

He wanted someone from MFC to find goats so he could try to milk them. On Friday, he will get his chance.

Delmar and Suzanne Miller and their children are bringing two goats so residents can try their hand at milking. The goats will be elevated on a platform so people do not have to bend down to try milking.

The Miller children are in Reno County’s 4-H program and they are always looking for a community project. When they heard about the community fair, they were excited to be able to use their goats for a community service project.

Inside, Ruby Miller, social life coordinator, put together a fair. There will be everything from woodworking project, doilies, vegetables, photography, baked goods and more.

There’s not a state fair without food. MFC will provide corn dogs and lemonade.

The fair is from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Sunnydell Commons Area at MFC.

Residents at Mennonite Friendship Communities frequently go to the Kansas State Fair.
