Hutchinson Community College sophomore guard Mark Braden was named the Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after pacing the Blue Dragons to three victories last week in the Quarterback Classic.
Braden, a 6-foo-t-5 guard from Kansas City, Mo. averaged 15.7 points and shot 53.1 percent from the field for the weekend. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals in almost 24 minutes per game.
Braden scored in double figures in all three games in the Quarterback Classic.
In HCC’s season-opening victory over Fort Scott, Braden had 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Against Division II, No. 5 Parkland, Braden scored 13 points with three steals and three assists.
Against Central Florida in the Quarterback Classic finale, Braden saved his best for last when he helped the Blue Dragons rally from a 14-point first-half deficit for a 10-point factory. Braden scored 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting.
