HUTCHINSON, Kan. —  About 900 Westar customers were without power after a squirrel got caught up in some of the utility’s infrastructure.

The outage happened around 4 p.m. and affected an area service by the 18th Avenue and Plum substation. Power was out for a little more than an hour. Police were able to patrol intersections where traffic signals were out.

The outage affected most residents in the central part of the city.
