MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Agriculture is hosting a Kansas Farm to School Month celebration event at 10 a.m. on Monday 6 at Maize High School.
The purpose of the event is to showcase Kansas farm to school programs. Maize is a recipient of the KDA Farm to School Sub-grant awarded this spring. The Farm to School program is designed to incorporate additional fresh, local farm foods into school cafeterias. In the KDA grant, agricultural education programs are studying food production and serving school-grown and produced foods into the lunch service.
The Maize event will include a student-led tour of the school’s farm to school and culinary programs as well as brief remarks from state agriculture and education leaders.
This event coincides with National Farm to School Month and National Farm to School Week, October 6-10.
